Demerits of KEI
A mathematical representation of the popularity of a keyword compared to its competition measured as the number of pages in a search engine’s index.
The formula for calculating KEI is P^2/c
P – Popularity of the keyword (Searches per month)
C – Competition for the keyword
The higher the KEI, the more popular your keywords are, and the less competition they have.
KEI helps to identify whether the selected keywords are effective for your campaign. Does it really make sense to choose keywords that way?
We are just considering two numbers to confirm whether our keyword suits our business. But there are lot to consider while choosing keywords for our website.
No matter how big the competition number. But the matter is how strong our competitors in SEO are. Even we can bring the website top for 10 digit competition keyword. But we may struggle to get top position for 5 digit competition keyword.
The points to be considered while selecting keywords:
1) Relevancy
2) Searches per month
3) Competitor’s Strength
We can calculate the competitor’s strength by using the following syntax in Google. It helps you to have clear picture how popular the keyword in SERP.
intitle:keyword
inurl:keyword
inanchor:keyword
