It’s really an amazing update taken place in Google analytics which helps to know more about our visitors. Previous update allows users to compare the reports with date. Current update allows users to compare reports with segments.

If you haven’t created any custom segments, you can enjoy reports with the default segments. I have just clicked the two following segments “All Visits” and my custom segment “Stumble Upon”. And below is the report where I can get visitors from Stumble Upon extracted from all the segments like Visits, Page Views, Bounce Rate and New Visits etc

How to create a Custom Segment?
In figure 1, you can see the link “Create a new advanced segment” link. Once you reach the page you can drag and drop the metrics in left side to the segment box where you can set condition. If you are interested to use more than one metric in a segment, you have to know about “And” and “Or” operator.
“And” “Or” Operators
- “Or” will include the data’s that meet Condition A or Condition B.” It will show you the data’s passing at least one condition.
- “And” will include the data’s that meet condition A and Condition B.” It won’t take the data’s passing one condition.
See, How I have created a custom segment?
I like to know about the visitors who are very loyal to my blog. So, below are the things that I had done in the segment and named it as “Engaged Visitors”.
- Eliminated the visitors other than who navigated three and above pages in my blog.
- Eliminated the visitors who stayed below 3 minutes in my blog.
- Eliminated the visitors other than who returned at least 3 times to my blog.
- Eliminated the visitors who haven’t returned to my blog before 15 days.
Below is the report that generated by GA for my custom segment “Engaged Visitors”.

So, I have 162 loyal visitors per month to my blog.
Google always rocks, rocks and rocks!!!
