Google site search allows user to have a search box in his website/blog where visitor can get results from his custom search engine.
While building custom search engine, we can set any of the below search preferences,
- Show search results from entire web (Google)
- Show search results only through my recommended websites
- Show search results from entire web, but emphasize sites I select.
The third and second option will be useful for website owners/bloggers to get search results from their website/blog itself.
While showing the search results from website/blog, it may not be a updated one. It may not display the recent content added by blogger for search queries. Now for this issue, Google has introduced an On-Demand Indexing facility in Google site search.
It’s really a mind-blowing technology. Below is the only requirement to enable the option.
- The Google account which you are using for Google site search must have sitemap.xml file added in Google Webmaster tools.
Say, you have added new 100 pages in your website/blog. You want your visitors to get the latest content/pages through your custom search engine. Just login to the Google Site Search, and click on control panel of your CSE and get into the indexing tab. Below is the image on how it works.

In future, I am expecting Google folks will implement this method for indexing new website to their database. If it happened, we don’t need to sit & wait before Google to index our web pages. Just we need to create sitemap xml file and click on Index now button. In next few minutes our new website will get indexed with our selected pages.
